Terms of Service

1. Acceptance
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of TutorMe at tutorme.academy (the “Platform”), operated by TutorMe Academy. By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
2. Who may use TutorMe
Parents manage family billing, browse approved tutors, and book sessions for linked students. Students access the portal through a parent-managed family (link code or email invite). Tutors are independent providers subject to application and manual vetting before appearing in the directory. Admins operate the marketplace on our behalf.
You must be at least 18 to register as a parent or tutor. Students under 13 must use the Platform only through a parent-controlled family account.
3. Platform subscription (parents)
Parents need an active monthly platform subscription to browse tutors and book sessions. The current price is $4.99 per month (USD), processed by Stripe. Up to five students are included per family at no extra platform fee. Each additional student beyond five adds $1.99 per month to the subscription (billed as a separate Stripe subscription item). Prices may change with notice on the subscribe page before renewal.
Subscription status, seat counts, and payment method are managed through Stripe Checkout and the Stripe Customer Portal linked from your billing page. Failure to pay may suspend booking until the subscription is current.
4. Session payments (split billing)
Each booked tutoring session is charged in two equal installments (50% / 50%) on the card saved with your subscription:
- First half — charged when you book if the session starts within 24 hours, or otherwise automatically before the session (typically within 24 hours of start).
- Second half — charged after the session is completed (when the tutor marks complete or per our automated billing rules).
Session totals are based on the tutor’s listed rate plus applicable platform fees shown at booking. Tutors paid through Stripe Connect receive their portion according to our payout rules. All card processing is handled by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers.
5. Cancellations & refunds
You may cancel a confirmed session from your portal before the scheduled start time, subject to the summary shown at booking. When a cancellation qualifies for a refund, captured installments are refunded to the original payment method through Stripe when processing succeeds. We do not guarantee refunds for no-shows or violations of these Terms. Platform subscription fees are governed by Stripe’s subscription billing rules unless otherwise required by law.
6. Non-circumvention
You agree to book, schedule, and pay for tutoring relationships introduced through TutorMe only on the Platform for at least twelve months from the first session with that tutor (or student). Taking payments or scheduling recurring lessons off-platform to avoid fees is prohibited and may result in account suspension.
7. Tutor relationship & vetting
Tutors are independent contractors, not employees or agents of TutorMe. We review applications and may approve, reject, or remove tutors at our discretion. We do not guarantee academic outcomes, grades, or admission results. Tutor profiles remain hidden until explicitly approved.
8. Sessions, video & conduct
Live sessions use in-platform video (Cloudflare RealtimeKit). Sessions are not recorded by TutorMe unless we state otherwise in writing. You agree to behave respectfully, comply with applicable laws, and not share harmful or illegal content. We may suspend accounts for abuse, fraud, or safety concerns.
9. Session reports
Tutors may submit written session reports visible to the family. Reports may include attachments (e.g. PDF or images) stored on our systems. Parents receive email summaries when configured.
10. Intellectual property
The Platform, branding, and software are owned by TutorMe or its licensors. You retain rights to content you submit (e.g. profile text, reports) and grant us a license to host and display it as needed to operate the service.
11. Disclaimers
The Platform is provided “as is” without warranties of uninterrupted service, error-free operation, or fitness for a particular purpose, to the extent permitted by law.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, TutorMe’s total liability for claims relating to the Platform is limited to the greater of (a) fees you paid to TutorMe in the twelve months before the claim or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages.
13. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your jurisdiction apply. Before litigation, contact us at support@tutorme.academy to attempt informal resolution. Chargebacks and payment disputes may be handled through Stripe’s processes.
14. Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
